We have developed a habit of importing frameworks that contradict Islam—dating culture, riba-based economies, immodesty, careerism as ultimate purpose—and then asking Islam to solve the contradictions we created. A lot of Muslims ask the wrong questions because they are operating in the wrong framework and expect teachers to find answers. But Islam is coherent. When you follow its guidance from the start, because of its comprehensiveness, certain problems are not expected to exist. The tension a lot of people feel, therefore, is not because Islam is unclear. It is because they are trying to live in two incompatible systems at once. This is a call to stop doing that. To stop pretending you can merge Islam with secular liberalism and have it work. You cannot. So choose: Islam, or liberal, western ideas.
