Although these aren’t exactly 1:1 correspondences owing to the fact that some of the Latin terminology found in later medieval chronicles had no precise Old English equivalent, I was nevertheless inspired to cobble this together while encountering so many different words for members of the nobility in a section of Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain) that I was reading this past week. I thought these would make a fun note and since I’ve been light on Old English note content lately, this is my attempt at a “bilingual” post recognizing that a few of the Old English labels are slightly interpretive. (I was also inspired by these super-cute images on Canva from AmethystStudio, so how could I not do something with them?)
