Today, critical acclaim in the poetry world, especially in the rare case that it is earned, is virtually a guarantee that no one but other poets have heard of you. Conversely, should one miraculously achieve the one-in-millions yet still modest fame of a Billy Collins, Mary Oliver, Amanda Gorman, Ocean Vuong, or Rupi Kaur, one’s chance of not being snickered at if not dismissed and scorned by one’s peers is virtually nil.
