The notion of Substack as anti-new-writer is sending me. Writers here and elsewhere have to navigate a broader media crisis that predates Substack and would exist even if Substack did not. It’s an unequivocally good thing that Substack has allowed many new (or not-new) writers to make a name for themselves even if they’re shut out by what’s left of the more traditional milieu. In other words: Give me a break!
