Ok, so with what just over a month to go before the football season proper begins, it's time to start having a glance at what's happening around the local footie scene.
Naturally, everyone will be looking at how Truro City put a squad together for their first season at Step One level in the National League. Already, a number of last season's players, the likes of Dan Rooney, Dan Lavercombe, Tyler Love-Holmes and Will Dean have signed full-time contracts.
Meanwhile the club has also decided that they won't be playing any of the Reserves’ South West Peninsula League fixtures at their home ground as they will now be playing at Helston, sharing the ground at Kellaway Park with the Blues. What happens the season after with regard to perhaps Truro Reserves becoming part of the Helston set-up, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, Helston themselves have appointed a new manager. Last season's Development side's boss, Dan Bua, is the first team gaffer, replacing Matty Cusack who left during the summer and has subsequently taken over the position of manager at Buckland.
In fact, there's been a host of managerial changes during the summer, whether it's more than usual, I'm not so sure, but certainly it's involved, some of our more high profile Cornish clubs this break.
Returning to thinking about Truro City, their Reserves are one of those teams that will have a new manager come the next few days or weeks. They’re not alone though as in the Western League, AFC St. Austell, Saltash United, and also Torpoint will be having new faces in charge for the training sessions about to begin.
In the South West Peninsula League West, as well as Truro already mentioned, Camelford, Dobwalls, Holsworthy, and Wadebridge Town are all clubs with new faces in charge.
We’ll fill in the exact names with a little bit more detail over the next few days. For the moment, well, it's not so sunny today, but enjoy the summer as the coming season’s hard work is soon going to be upon us.
Of course for many, it has already started and their pre-season friendlies are well and truly, on the horizon.
Who be playing the earliest friendly this summer? Perhaps you can let CORNISH SOCCER know via this Substack post.
