BREAKING: U.S. inflation is back above 4%.
The latest CPI report shows prices rose 4.2% year-over-year in May, up from 3.8% in April.
That matters because inflation was 2.7% in November 2024, Biden’s last full month before Trump returned to office.
So the story is not just “inflation topped 4%.”
It is this:
Trump inherited inflation under 3%.
Now it is over 4%.
And the main driver is exactly the kind of energy-price shock presidents love to pretend they can bully out of existence.
Energy: +23.5% year-over-year
Gasoline: +40.5% year-over-year
Headline CPI: 4.2%
Verdict: validated.
Inflation is materially higher than when Biden left office. The “lower prices” presidency is currently delivering higher prices.
