I haven’t actually introduced myself here so I thought I’d say hello 👋 my name is Cosi and I’m a classicist/ancient historian who focuses on visual culture 🏺 more broadly (and more accurately) I’m incredibly passionate about all things old and dusty and am desperate to revitalise these fields and share them in whatever way I can with as many people as possible.

I realised about 5 years ago that traditional academia was never going to be the place for me so I started doing other things, using events, products, videos, really anything I could think of as a way of sharing my love of the ancient world ❤️‍🔥 I started up this substack as a way of connecting with people that wasn’t beholden to various algorithms or censorship (instagram has slapped me on the wrist more times than I can count because marble sculptures are apparently unbearably provocative).

I completed my Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Ancient World Studies at the university of Melbourne and I’ve just finished my MPhil in classics at Cambridge. Not only can I breathe again, I can now direct my focus here, writing regularly and creating a more collaborative space with interviews and guest writers, fostering what I hope will be a community of passionate, engaged people, whether they’re early stage academics, outspoken public-facing figures or quiet enthusiasts.
