On the afternoon of April 24, 2022, the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Alumni Association in Chicago held a meet-and-greet event for alumni running for state legislature in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. More than 30 USTC alumni from the Chicago area, along with some other local guests, attended the event in person, while others watched the live broadcast via Zoom.
Lin Jing, president of the USTC Alumni Association, presided over the event. At the beginning of the session, she introduced the two alumni candidates:
Zeng Jianning, a candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 9A. He enrolled in USTC’s Department of Physics in 1993, graduated in 1998, and went to the University of Maryland in the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a Ph.D. He is currently working as a software engineer in Maryland.
Zhao Yukong, a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives in District 45 in 2022. He enrolled in USTC’s Department of Modern Physics in 1980. After graduation, he worked for 8 years at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1992, he came to the U.S., earned an MBA from the University of Florida, and later worked at Siemens USA, eventually serving as the Global Marketing Director for Siemens.
