sometimes i wonder how many versions of myself i’ve outgrown without even noticing. i look back at old photos and remember the thoughts i used to carry, the dreams i thought would save me. it’s strange how you can live inside yourself every day and still not realize you’re evolving. it’s only when you look back that you realize how far you’ve come, how many lives you’ve already lived in the same skin.

why can’t life always feel like children’s book illustrations?

You made it, you own it

You always own your intellectual property, mailing list, and subscriber payments. With full editorial control and no gatekeepers, you can do the work you most believe in.

Sometimes I fantasize about disappearing.

Not dying.

Just logging off.

Getting a job no one cares about.

Growing tomatoes.

Writing poems in the margins of a notebook no one reads.

Not as a failure.

But as a kind of freedom.

I’m a few days into a new project called #canadaliveshere where I’m sharing interesting history and other facts about a different Canadian community each day.

I’ve compiled a list of 3457 communities ranging from big cities to small towns, to rural villages and even little hamlets with double-digit population counts.

I have full intentions of staying the course which will take between 9-10 years. I’m trying to figure out how to share the project here on Substack.

It’s not really newsletter-ish. And I tried copying and pasting each post from yesterday’s Twitter thread into a big long Substack note but I didn’t like how it looked.

Today I’m going to try to emulate how I post threads on LinkedIn by posting 1 note and then posting all the other thread posts as comments on the first note.

Let’s see what happens…

🧵 1/20 #canadaliveshere: exploring one Canadian community every day...

Today we're going to Cranberry Portage, Manitoba! Located in the Rural Municipality of Kelsey, it’s a small community of 608 people rich in history and adventure.
