Day Two: In the Event of an Emergency

when the sirens

start to wail

and the earth

shakes beneath

your feet

…

remember

that your roots

are deeper than

any chaos

could reach

…

breathe

with the trees

that know

the calm

within the storm

…

you are

upon the shores

of your own

survival

…

when the winds

scream

open your palms

let the fear fly

away

…

and in the stillness

that follows

…

rebuild

with the quiet

that grows

inside

you

…

it takes more

than a single

break

to unmake

you

…

in the event

of an emergency

find your heart

in the space

between

the beats.
