The app for independent voices

Part of the emphasis on creativity in my own life has been highlighted after the death of my sons and now again after the death of my mother. The grief literacy skills are creative. I get more creative with them with each new grief experience. It’s never been about artmaking for me, but about heARTmaking. These losses have me constantly re-creating the very beat of my life, the art of my heart. I brought this to Cath when she invited me to co-create the Creative Grief Studio with her, and to this day, our Studio is still here exploring creatively with those of you who come to participate.

As we are in the last couple weeks before launching a new cohort, I’m dreaming of ways to keep bringing grief + creativity as a resource to you all. Our team is struggling to keep the Studio afloat as capitalism causes plenty of grief, but rarely supports those of us seeking or offering space to heal from the wreckage. I continue to hear repeatedly from practitioners that their clients are having challenges in on-going ways, both death and non-death related. And Practitioners themselves are being challenged on levels, both personal and professional. I lean back into Kaba’s work where she encourages us to look for the “one million experiments” instead of one single right answer or way. We need all the millions of creative experiments now more than ever to address the myriad of grief experiences happening for humanity.

We’ll keep being present with Studio Hour each month as a free and welcoming space for Practitioners to decompress. We’ll keep being present with new rounds of our year long Creative Grief course. We’re looking at various ideas for how to open more invitations like our tool library here on Substack, our short courses, and a few kernels of new ideas. We encourage you to keep looking for connections and spaces to be open to each other.

Keep creating! Our grieving hearts appreciate that creativity. I promise.
