Here’s my little poem about what I’m doing this weekend!
It’s Mother’s Day this weekend
Oh joy!
But I’m gonna pretend
That I have no children
Oh boy!
What?! It’s not like I’m in Illinois.
.
I need some time for me
Indeed!
Make like I’m an abductee—
but eventually freed!
More like an escapee
From my own family
Tee hee!
.
But truly, I love being a mother
For real!
This heart grew to make room for another
Finally letting myself begin to heal
.
So this weekend is Mother’s Day,
you see.
A little celebration for this side of me.
And as I sip my coffee, in silence, and maybe even have a book to read,
living the life of an escapee,
I can’t help but think…
that without my son near,
I just feel like an amputee.
