Check out Ben Dryth and Daniel Falatko along with many others here. My $0.02: I have seen New York doomerism all my life and, truthfully it is wrong and right. I would go past the hipster era and say New York hasn’t truly been the center since the Gen X era: the ‘80s for rock, art and literature, the ‘90s for hip-hop. I was idiotically lucky enough to bridge and tunnel through all the boroughs with the soundtrack of Nas and Wu Tang vibrating like heat shimmers off the streets. But yeah even the hipster era was a silver age, niche and had to be there as it was (again lucky enough to catch it before 2007).
This doesn’t mean New York is dead or finished, just diminished. I know this is the coldest comfort imaginable but Cum Town and The Adam Friedland Show came out of New York. And you also got Daniel Falatko and Ross Barkan along with all the others that I constantly like and restack.
TL,DR: New York ain’t bangin’, it lost power, but it’s the home of 9/11 and you wanna stand the fuck up for it when it rises again.
