This mountain will dwarf Mount Rushmore… and it’s still not finished.

Since 1948, a single vision has been carved into Thunderhead Mountain. The Crazy Horse Memorial will stretch 641 feet long and 563 feet high when complete. For decades, only the face has emerged.

Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski refused government funding to keep it independent and under Native control. That choice slowed everything but preserved its purpose.

Even now, the question lingers.

Is this a tribute to a civilization… or a monument it never asked for?
