In Japanese folklore haradashi is a peculiar looking yokai that can take on many different forms. Its defining feature is a huge belly upon which will appear silly facial features. Sometimes this strange face appears on the body of a woman and other times on a headless torso. Haradashi isn't a harmful yokai and they actually try to help humans. They disguise themselves as regular people and appear before sad and lonely folk, often when they're drinking alone. When offered a drink, haradashi will joyfully accept and will expose their belly in an attempt to make the person laugh, usually accompanying this with some crazy dancing. If you entertain a haradashi in your home you will likely notice that your worries disappear and instead you will feel hopeful about the future. As well as visiting people in homes, haradashi also live in temples calling out to those in need. They will provide warm shelter to the weary and lost, entertaining them with food, drink, dancing and their trademark belly-face.
