This ukiyo-e print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1846) is titled 'Hazy Moon Cats' or alternatively 'Pale Moon, Cats in Season' and depicts cats as courtesans in the Yoshiwara pleasure district. At the time, depicting prostitutes in artwork was prohibited so Kuniyoshi, who was an avid cat lover, created the scene with cats rather than humans.
