I was genuinely taken aback earlier when Shaun Van Niekerk, CISSP tagged me in a reply suggesting I deserved an honour for the work I do.
Shaun, thank you, mate. That genuinely means a lot coming from someone doing such important work yourself.
But honestly? There are far more deserving people out there, frontline workers, teachers, survivors who turn their pain into protection for others. I'm just someone who has seen the pain first hand and can't stop talking about something that matters.
What it DID remind me of is why I started cybersafetyguy.com in the first place.
For every parent who's messaged me saying a blog post helped them have a conversation with their child about online safety. For every person who said they didn't realise how real the risks were until they read something I wrote. That's the fuel.
The work isn't glamorous. A lot of it comes from years of seeing things in a previous life and digital forensics that you can't unsee. Writing about it is partly how I process that, and if it protects even one child or helps one family navigate the digital world more safely, that's more than enough.
So no, I don't think I deserve an honour. But I do think the people who read, share, and engage with this content are the real reason it keeps going.
Thank you. Genuinely.
