Phone scams using AI-cloned voices are well-documented in the context of fraud. The child safety dimension is less discussed.
A cloned voice of a parent, teacher, or trusted adult could be used to lower a child's guard, issue false instructions, or manipulate them into sharing information or images they otherwise wouldn't.
This isn't widely reported as a current tactic in child grooming. But the technology is accessible, the barrier to entry is low, and tactics evolve to use whatever tools are available.
Talking to your child about the fact that voices can be faked, as part of a broader AI literacy conversation, is genuinely protective.
