I used to “know” DNS.
Meaning:
I could say “it translates domain names to IP addresses.”
But if you asked me what actually happens after typing google.com…
I had no idea.
No resolver. No root server. No TLD. Nothing.
Just a memorized sentence.
That’s how most people study cybersecurity.
Memorize → forget → panic in interviews.
Understanding starts when you admit:
“I don’t actually get this.”
Then fix it.
