Been a minute since I was as obsessed with a new major-artist hip-hop album as I am with Tierra Whack's World Wide Whack. It still has aspects of her great cooky wordplay and cartoon perspective. But it's really a rap singer-songwriter album about depression — and I think, more specifically, about pandemic depression. Incredible diaristic passages, excellent minimal 808 hi-hats. Attempts at hope, fake consumerist joy, and hopelessness, all in a muddle.
