Psychological horror limited series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen has one of the best first episodes I’ve seen in a long time. You have no idea what’s going on, but the feeling of dread promised in the title keeps building and building. It really unnerved me in the exact way I want horror to do. In subject matter (relationship uncertainty) and style (eerie surrealism), it reminds me of Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things. And it ends with a scene where the main character sees the front door banging open in the middle of a winter night and walks through the house looking for whatever came inside. It was so scary and I could feel the cold so vividly that I got goosebumps.
