Currently doing a deep dive about the insanity that was the history of the Philippines in the late 1500s. You have Spanish colonizers, Indigenous Mexicans, and a whole variety of different Filipino groups fighting against Chinese and Japanese pirates under the command of a gay warlord. Then, you have Portugal and Spain nearly clashing. Spaniards (and all their various allies) clashing with the Islamic Sultanate of Brunei, which received help from the Ottoman Empire in the form of soldiers from Egypt, Sudan, Turkey, India and a bunch of other places. It sounds made-up, but it all really happened.
