I did online zoom assessments yesterday for the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival - and one octogenarian woman (correctly) said her age-group of women are the main audience who attend writers festivals and yet there’s few books out there featuring them (here she said “I despise Elizabeth Strout. DESPISE! Her old women are all so *cynical*!”) so she’s writing for women her age.
Specifically, she was inspired by a date she went on, where the gentleman said at the end that he didn’t think they were a match. When she asked him why, he said he was; “looking to date someone who looks like Meryl Streep,” and she fell off her chair laughing.
I think the joke is actually still believing men are worth your time - romantically - in your 80s but 🤷♀️ she was legit for that reaction.
