I’ve come to see both the hardcore AI boosterism and the anti-AI purism as rival unconscious strategies for evading/denying the various kinds of threats that AI poses to us.
The way forward for all of us, but for artists/intellectuals in particular, is to treat it as a tool like any other that we can choose or not choose as a means of aiding our work and lives. We should be alive to the ways in which it is especially dangerous but it’s still just a tool, and it will neither magically make people with no talent into people with talent nor magically suck the talent out of the talented.
