Interesting perspective from stress expert Molly Dickens, PhD about whether dads are “joy hoarding,” doing only the fun stuff while moms tackle the hassles. I’m more of an optimist than Molly about fathers’ role, because I think that kids benefit when parents enjoy spending time with them. Sure, I’d be annoyed if my kids’ dad only showed up to take my kid out for the occasional ice cream cone and let me handle all the hard stuff. But if he’s having fun giving my kid a bath, great! More power to him. Joy begets more joy.
In 1982, 42% of dads said they'd never changed a diaper! Today it's 3%. So dads are taking on more of the yucky stuff, too.
