Eastern European Art Monday 🌻

Cats make Mondays better! I couldn’t resist sharing this beautiful sculpture by Polish sculptor of Ukrainian heritage, Antonina Rożniatowska, (1860-1895). It is titled “Woman with a Kitten,” circa 1888.

The sculpture was inspired by the poem “At the wrong time” by Polish playwright and poet Michal Balucki. The poem tells the story of a young man who came to see the girl he was in love with, but she was too busy playing with a kitten to pay him attention. The man realized that he had come too early and decided to wait. When he came a year later, the girl was already in love with someone else. The author realized that this time, he came too late.

You can find the original poem in Polish here: poezja.org/wz/Michal_Ba…
