i received a comment on my dating with adhd IG today from a guy who wanted to educate me on the fact that ADHD isn’t always “cute and quirky” and that it’s actually “really sh*tty.”
um…no sh*t? i’ve never once said ADHD is all fun and games. lol like what??
and it dawned on me that some men STILL don’t understand how ADHD uniquely impacts women. estrogen plays a major role in regulating neurotransmitters like serotonin and, drum roll please, dopamine!! when estrogen drops during our luteal phase, so does our dopamine. aka: our ADHD is even MORE intense during the second half of our cycle. this is when men love to call us cute and quirky crazy.
oh, and when women have ADHD, we also have a higher chance of developing PMDD, as well as early-onset and more severe perimenopause. so cute! so quirky!
if you’re a man and genuinely want to understand what it means to exist as a woman with ADHD, or you’re a woman with ADHD who wants to feel validated, i’m resharing a post i wrote addressing this topic here:
