What I'm reading is that Hamas may have been counting on Hezbollah to start an attack from the north, which definitely would have placed Israel into an existential crisis. Hezbollah has not moved, and there seems to be some suggestions that Iran is behind that, and that Hamas feels "abandoned" by Iran.
