Are any of you Substack creators able to create a new video post right now, or does it default to an audio post (asking for an audio file) when you try to do that?

J.D. Vance, a Catholic, shares responsibility for mistakenly sending a man to a foreign jail where beatings, torture, malnutrition and murder are commonplace. Rather than correct this error, he chose to laugh and smile with the dictator who set up this gulag. And will do nothing to facilitate his return.

In Holy Week.

Judge Wilkinson, a conservative legal stalwart, and a person previously considered by a Republican president for SCOTUS, puts it simply enough today:

“It is difficult in some cases to get to the very heart of the matter. But in this case, it is not hard at all. The government is asserting a right to stash away residents of this country in foreign prisons without the semblance of due process that is the foundation of our constitutional order. Further, it claims in essence that because it has rid …

A teacher at the school where my husband works said he shared my newsletter on writing by hand with his students to help them understand why they have to learn penmanship and turn in handwritten papers. I love that my writing might help them see the value and beauty in doing something difficult and countercultural.

I Expected A Racist Diatribe From A White Supremacist
Chris Fox's avatar

@Steve: racists exist and are real and the only reason for not calling someone a racist is to avoid a fight. I will walk away from them, though. One time at Microsoft I was in a new office and the other person in there managed in less than ten minutes after meeting to tell me that black people were responsible for all crime in America. I am not making this up. All.

I didn't call him any names. I simply excused myself, went to my manager and told him I did not want to share an office with th…

"but suppose there are? Can we live with that?"

That is what makes it a 3rd rail issue. A presumption of truth of that has historically been a bad road.

I frequently include "where does that lead?" to decision making (akin to what could go wrong?). Your stated tendency to walk away from some fights is likely an understanding that the price of victory could be too high. The punchline from the movie "War Games" comes to mind. "The only way you win is to not play."

Do we really want an answer to that…

Chris Fox's avatar

For the record, no, I don't want an answer.

If such a difference exists then it is small and temporary and its revelation will only do harm, and then there is that near-total overlap.

Exactly my thought.
