All I can say is, my PCP had no trouble even getting me started on Trulicity--a different GLP-1 inhibitor than semaglutide--since I've been diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes for more than a decade, during which time I was taking Levemir, and more recently Lantus, now that Novo-Nordisk has decided to discontinue distributing Levemir in the US.
Furthermore many of these "Type-2 diabetes" approvals have now been officially expanded to weight-loss, so you wouldn't even have to be diabetic. I even read about one of these drugs whose manufacturer is petitioning for approval as an Obstructive Sleep Apnea prevention drug.
Up until this year I wasn't even paying for it--I have individual insurance from UHC--but as of January they've started charging around $150/month. A lot of cash, but still...way less than the $349 you quote above, or even the $200 you quote for the aftermarket version.
I'll admit, I can't help but wonder if it's isn't the compounders who are the problem, since they'd be charging me 33 percent more than I'm paying now.
