My posts are about Atlantic islands. But I have a broad definition of what an island is, and also what the Atlantic is. I am the opposite of the Hamish Haswell-Smith, who excluded the Isle of Skye from his excellent book The Scottish islands on the grounds that it was connected to the mainland by a bridge. I’m quite happy if my piece of land has water round it or, even possibly if it did in the past. I’ve also extended the Atlantic. I am covering Gotland in the Baltic, which would certainly be in the Atlantic if we moved Sweden, Norway and the British Isles out of the way. Similar for the Frisian islands and Heligoland. So my places have to to be islandish and Atlanticish. But, and I’m hardline on this, they must be interesting places to visit and also full of good history (which everywhere is if you look hard enough).
