I grossly underestimated the effect that reading the Chronicles of Narnia to my daughter would have on her vocabulary. (She also listens to the audiobooks every night as she goes to sleep.) Because now I have a four year old saying things like:

This is also an argument for not writing down to a child’s level. There needs to be some balance, though. Don’toverly frustrate a child learning to read!
What suggestions do you have for bringing young readers up without making your prose too hard for the independent reader?
