Seneca on kindness

“Kindness (humanitas) forbids arrogance toward one’s companions; it forbids greed. In words, deeds, and feelings, it shows itself gentle and accommodating to all. It considers no misfortune to be someone else’s alone. Yet it cherishes its own good, especially since it will benefit someone else.” — Letters 88.3 (My translation)
