I fully believe this, which is why I’ve been muted in my criticism of the 1A issues with Harvard/Columbia - if they could just cut the cord without saying why it could save American education.

I believe that not only cursive writing, but cursive writing with a pencil on scratchy low-quality paper helped kids learn to read and spell. That muscle effort plus the slow painstaking creation of each letter while saying the sound of the letter in your head or outloud—and then blending it into the next connected letter—how could this not be helpful?

Sure, I go to the library for books, but also sometimes I go just to exist in a space that's welcoming, organized, comfortable, judgement-free, and run by knowledgeable, helpful, passionate people, because that energy is straight up medicinal

Substack is in danger of collapsing under its own weight. There are just too many worthy accounts here now to expect readers to cough up $5 for every writer they want to read. There needs to be some kind of subscription/revenue sharing mechanism so subscribers aren’t constantly asked for money for every damned article they’d like to read. Sell tokens. Punchcards. Come on, SS, INNOVATE ALREADY.

I’m going to say something that shouldn’t be controversial but will be. If you are a Christian, you can support border control and immigration being legal vs illegal. You CANNOT celebrate deportations and get off on the cruelty, and be a real Christ follower. Period
I admire JK Rowling enormously. Why? Because having attained professional success and wealth beyond the imagination of most of us, she could have taken the easy option and kept her head down. Instead, she put herself on the frontline to defend her fellow women, knowing that she would become a hate figure in the eyes of many. That takes guts and principles. Give her the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

I can't assume that this is the product of a good faith evaluation. I think it's utter BS. Garland should resign.

We should consider the source: Hur is a Republican, who acted exactly like a Republican.
It's time for Merrick Garland to go. His slow walking of investigating Trump, while prosecuting the little people is an egregious mistake. His dithering has brought the country to a dangerous place.
