The UPS driver always leaves packages behind the planter by my door.

Not on the doorstep where they'd be visible.

Behind the planter. Where only someone who lives here would think to look.

Yesterday I saw him arranging it just so, making sure it was completely hidden.

"Porch pirates," he explained with a shrug.

Some people are quietly taking care of everyone.

You want to know why the usual suspects are foaming at the mouth over the new humanitarian aid system in Gaza?

Because for the first time in decades, aid isn’t being funneled through terrorist middlemen, warlords in keffiyehs, or corrupt UN bureaucrats who think a five-star …

After an Israeli family was kicked out of a Naples restaurant simply for being Israeli, city officials didn’t let it slide. They met with the family, treated them to a café, covered their next two days of excursions, and the Italy-Israel association is hosting them for dinner — reaffirming that Italy must be a safe space for Jews. This i…

Despite safety warnings, 56,000 people showed up to the annual Walk for Israel in Toronto today. It was peaceful with only about 100 Pro-Hamas protestors trying unsuccessfully to disrupt the march. 🇮🇱💪🇨🇦

Meanwhile, millions of Muslims live freely in Israel and India.

Yet somehow, Israel and India are the ones labeled "racist."

based on every school I ever worked in (ending almost exactly eleven years ago), nope. we've discussed this before. but I can add that when I was working (in both middle schools and high schools) "rote" was considered evil, even to the extent of "policy" forbidding that any time be wasted in class drilling the times tables. at the time, my comment was "what the fuck?" and that's still right where I am now. maybe the policy was based on the notion that every kid uses a calculator now. big, big mistake.

Add that edumacational stupidity to "Whole Language" reading education where a kid was supposed to learn to read by osmosis from sitting in the vicinity of a "Great Book," and you know why the generation now in their 40s and early 50s are mostly functionally illiterate.

The degree Ed.D. should be abolished and its holders stuffed in rockets and fired into the sun. Along with all MBA's.

...and I still can't figure out why people have problems with phonics. isn't that how most of us learned to read?
