Authenticity makes you bulletproof.
Earlier, when I failed at something and people asked me about it while smiling, I would blush and start talking awkwardly, listing excuses. I wanted to hide my failure, and people knew that, so they tried to use it against me to make me feel small so they can feel better about themselves.
Today, in the same situation, I look them in the eyes and tell them that yes, I failed this time, but I’m going to give it another try. No smiles, just steady eye contact and a nod that says it’s okay.
When people see that you have nothing to hide and fully own your actions, failures, and successes, they won’t laugh at you anymore.
