there’s a genus of mushroom known as Lactarius, thusly named because they “lactate” by exuding a white milky latex . . . as seen here with this hygrophorous milkcap (Lactifluus hygrophoroides) . . . these have a soft muted orange color and are often the base species in lobster mushrooms . . . you’ll notice the latin name is lactifluus, as mentioned earlier, mycology is a relatively new science, things are changing frequently . . . a number of lactarius have been moved to the lactifluus genus over minor molecular differences . . . i wish they’d stop doing that . . . it’s hard to keep up lol
