For general-purpose, moderate-stakes tasks, there might not be a better solution than LLMs at the moment. For highly specialized domains, the front runner really seems to be scientific foundation models. If you haven’t heard about those yet, I truly recommend starting to get acquainted. Current results are impressive to say the least. I will write about it soon and share some exciting facts.
