Greetings from snowy Cape Cod. Well, we survived the snowicane. We got hit pretty hard— With snow, wind, and drifts not seen since the famous Blizzard or ‘76. Here on the Upper Cape we are in lockdown mode—not allowed to be on the road lest you receive a $500 fine. Not that you’d be able to get out much anyway because most of the side roads are blocked with fallen trees and powerlines.

We have been without electricity for two days and don’t expect to be back on the power grid for another two or three, but we are making do. Fortunately, we have a gas fireplace which keeps us toasty warm and a gas stove for heating up foods that we have moved from our refrigerator to our outdoor screened in porch to keep them cold. As I sit here on my deck today, the sun is shining brightly, and there is not a whisper of wind in the air. I can hear snow plows in the distance and the beep beep beep as they shift into reverse. Eventually, they’ll be coming by our neighborhood and I’ll be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

I write this entry today on my phone with sparse access to the Internet, I look forward to sending photos and tales of this historic blizzard in the future.

I do have a Substack post that is in the queue to go out Friday morning all about the Falmouth winter farmers market which I’m sure will inspire you. There is an amazing group of young entrepreneurs from all over Southern New England who arrive every Sunday to sell their wares, concoctions, and sweet treats—many of these entrepreneurial spirits are recent immigrants, realizing the American dream.

Peace and love,

Jim
