One other thing I've been thinking about w/r/t consent is how people who argue that "consent as a moral framework is stupid" *always* seem to miss that it works in both directions. If you throw out consent entirely, you can justify things like compulsory heterosexuality. The problem isn't that "consent is stupid," it's that consent *alone* is flawed. You can say yes to any number of things that are harmful to you, others, or society at large, and that doesn't make it "good." I think we see the same sort of issue around "stop worshipping choice." It's not so much that *choice* is the problem... You just also have to consider that a) there are going to be people and institutions who exploit choice to sell you new lifestyles and problems, and b) that new restrictive norms that function in the exact same ways as say 'traditional values' do, only masequrade as choice and are, not in fact, choice
