After hearing Meryl Streep use the word “clunky” to describe her acting process I adopted it for use with my university students and for working with professional playwrights during the Play Development Lab.

It really is a perfect word for the emergence of “process thinking and process implementation”.

Embrace the clunky is an invitation to allow imperfect process its place in the scaffolding of new ideas and the refinement of thoughts that lead to fully formed expression.

No one writes or creates a perfect first draft…of anything. Ideas begat more refined ideas not better ones. But, you need a first thought or idea to get the clunky wheels turning. In the beginning and several times throughout the scaffolding process everything will be smooth sailing and then become clunky all over again. It’s this way for EVERYONE!

There is no perfection only process that scaffolds you towards the embodiment of your best thoughts and ideas.

Let it be so. Trust it. Trust yourself to think your way through the clunky. 🌟🌟🌟
