just because AI can read a book that would take me 12 hours doesn’t mean that it’s advisable for workers to use AI to do every 12-hour reading. If I just let Claude summarize every book for me, I suppose I might be able to cite ten-times more books in my writing. But if I stop reading books, then not only am I decimating my capacity to pay attention to ideas for a long period of time, but also I’m replacing my own taste and judgment as a thinker with the synthetic taste and judgment of a machine whose “taste” is the statistical aggregate of its pre-training and post-training data.
