On this day in Texas history, in 1932, across Debbie Reynolds was born in El Paso as Mary Francis Reynolds. Her first role was in Three Little Words (1950). Her breakout role was as Kathy Sheldon in the 1952 hit Singing in the Rain. She was nominated for an Academy Award in The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964), losing out to Julie Andrews for Mary Poppins. Reynolds is the mother of Carrie Fisher of Star Wars fame.
