On this day in Texas history, in 1767, Diego Ortiz Parrilla submitted a map of the Texas coast, which was based on his expiration in late 1766 and early 1767. While Parrilla said his map “superseded all those that had come to the courts of Spain and France,” it had major inaccuracies and suffered from serious lack of details of boy and rivers because the shallow waterways, hurricanes, and Karankawa interfered with exploration. Prior to this time, there had been extensive inland travel and several missions had been established, but details of the Texas coastline continued to be vague.
