The “Big Beautiful Bill” Hasn’t Passed — But Not for the Reasons You Might Hope
It’s important to understand why several GOP members opposed Trump’s proposed spending bill. It wasn’t because it lacked climate protections, humanitarian investments, or fiscal responsibility. It was because, in their view, it didn’t cut enough, especially from healthcare, climate programs, and other public services.
The problem wasn’t that the bill was too cruel. For them, it wasn’t fiscally cruel enough.
