The piece that I can’t get over about this moment in history are these two facts:

Fact one: Donald Trump and millions of Americans feel that other countries constantly take advantage of the United States, that the European Union was created to “screw” the United States, that globalization undermines the United States, that the rules-based international order weakens the United States, that American leadership costs the United States — and therefore the United States needs to junk the whole old international order that is dragging it down and go it alone.

Fact two: The United States is the richest and most powerful country in the world. And in human history. By a wide and growing margin.

The disconnect is staggering.
