This is Sak Yant.

A tattooing tradition that is approximately 2,000 years old, blending Buddhism and Animism.

While tourists can get knock of Sak Yant in any tattoo parlour, the real tattooing tradition requires going to a temple and monk, OR going to an Ajarn(master).

Practitioners believe that the tattoos can bring good luck, fortune, increase fertility and more — and practitioners must follow certain rules or the tattoo is said to turn on you. Which is why receiving a Sak Yant tattoo should not be taken lightly.
