Around this time 8 years ago, we were packing up to leave damp and dreary Dublin.
It was a blur of boxes, exhaustion and caring for a chronically sick toddler.
We may as well have stuck a pin in a map when we choose Zaragoza.
We were choosing Spain for climate and their incredible health system - both which our asthmatic daughter needed as a priority to help her health.
A few good contacts in Zaragoza, offered to help us settle, get registered and access health support.
That was all it took to seal the deel. We were picking a place in Spain we hoped would give us a soft landing and that we knew was a better climate than Dublin.
Most important to us was a robust and humane health system. (which you would expect in a developed country like Ireland, but donโt be fooled!)
In the end, we got so, so much more. I will always be grateful to this stunning, welcoming and magical city.
Zaragoza and every Zaragozan, you stole my heart and I cannot but thank you for welcoming us with open arms.
