Today was one of those milestone days. After being approached by OUP three years ago, having accepted and then invited a brilliant co-editor, Luke Shelton, having taken a lengthy proposal though rigorous peer-review, and having worked with numerous Tolkien scholars globally for over a year, we have now submitted the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of J.R.R. Tolkien! This was a mammoth undertaking:
- 44 chapters
- 46 Tolkien scholars from all over the world
- over 280K words overall
There’s still tons of work to do as proofs arrive, but this felt like a moment to pause and celebrate.
