A new poll found that a surprising number of Republican men believe Donald Trump, a geriatric grandfather who eats McDonald’s every day and has bone spurs, could beat them in a physical fight. Meanwhile, most Democratic women said they could take him.

The result says less about Trump’s strength and more about the weird cult of masculinity surrounding him. GOP men have spent years pretending Trump is some unstoppable alpha, and now they’re apparently willing to admit they’d lose a fight to him just to keep the fantasy alive.
